Reading pool reports without the spin

Person studying printed reports at a wooden desk

Pool dashboards are designed to look reassuring. In coaching sessions we teach guests to ignore the celebratory banners and focus on a few durable signals: accepted shares over time, reject percentage, and stale share spikes that align with local network hiccups.

Rejects

A low, steady reject rate often points to normal variance. A sudden climb after a firmware change or cable reseat deserves a hardware check before you blame the pool. Bring screenshots to study circle — comparing timestamps across miners is more useful than debating brands.

Stale shares

Stales that rise during evening household Wi-Fi congestion suggest a networking issue, not a failing hashboard. Guests on Ethernet usually see calmer charts. We demonstrate both paths on studio networking so the difference is visible.

What reports cannot tell you

Pool pages will not warn that your shed hit 45°C or that a neighbour complained about noise. Pair reports with a cheap thermometer log and your own ears. That pairing is a recurring theme in Webaspenway’s crypto mining education.

Ask about coaching or the next study circle.
